Vintage Apothecary Jars

Apothecary bottles were used by druggist to hold the drugs they dispensed. They were typically classified under medicines, extracts, tonics, roots and creams. The jars and bottles are now very popular for collectors. Common ingredient names found on labels of apothecary bottles/jars: Alum, Belladon, Cantharis, Capsici, Carum, Caryophy Caryophyllus, Catawba, Cubeba, Tincture of Guaic, Sp. Junip, Sp. Mypciae, Powdered Piper Nigrum, Plumbi Acetas, Rad. Iris, S. Cardam, Scillae, Sodium Bromide and Sulfur. Many of these jars were widely used in the 19th century.
